How To Frame A Jersey
So you just went out and spent $500 on that autographed jersey of your favorite athlete? Now you probably want to know how to frame a jersey. Scoring the autographed jersey was fun and you didn't hesitate to drop the cash on it. Spending a lot of money on the framing won't be nearly as fun. Most people want to find the cheapest option possible but still want it to look good. You can easily learn how to frame a jersey yourself and save some cash.
You'll need a few things. You're going to need a mat board, a push pin, a needle and some thread. Make sure the needle matches the jersey. Don't rush out and buy a frame just yet. You don't want to get one that's too big or too small.
Decide the view you want your jersey displayed at. When I'm deciding how to frame a jersey it depends what's on the front and the back. Typically I want to put the back in view as that's where the number and name are. I also prefer to fold the sleeves on to the top of the jersey. If they have a logo on them it makes it stand out even more.
You then need to lay it on top of the mat board. Trace around the edge of the jersey. Take the jersey off the board and cut out the shape of it. Leave a little bit of excess or room for error. You can always cut a little bit more off later. Pull the jersey on to the board. If it fits, great! If not, just cut off some excess to make it fit. Poke a few holes around the edge of the jersey with a push pin. You're going to use these to sew the jersey to the board.
Make sure you measure it from top to bottom and side to side after you have it sewn to the mat. I personally like to leave about an inch all the way around. You don't want it to be too bunched up in the frame, nor do you want too much space between the jersey and the frame.
It's simple from this point. Just purchase a frame and slide the jersey inside. There are many websites that specialize in jersey frames.
Now you know how to frame a jersey yourself and still have it look like a professional did it.
