Review Of The Giro Monza Cycling Helmet
The Giro Monza is a helmet fro Giro that has a blend of state-of-the-art road cycling technology and price that many are going to think is the perfect combination. Stylingwise, it’s a little sharper and racier than its stablemate the Giro Saros, although carrying many of the same features. Although it would not look out of place at all in town, the styling is definitely "road".
It's possibly the case that some people new to the world of cycling feel that they do not need a helmet - "I only ride a little, I don't need one". Ironically, the need is probably greatest for the inexperienced. In our opinion a helmet is always to be advised. Why choose a Monza?
The helmet is manufactured using advanced in-mould techniques. In this process the hard polycarbonate outer shell is bonded to the inner polystyrene body in one procedure, inside the mould. Extra reinforcement is built into the area around the vents and ribs, increasing the impact resistance.
This extra reinforcement allows 24 large vents to be designed into the helmet, together with internal ventilation channels to increase the airflow. As a result, it comes as no surprise that the great ventilation is one of the features most complimented by users of the helmet. At only 256 grams the Monza is also comfortable to wear.
There’s a small criticism quoted by some, that the front vents do not have netting, as some models do, to keep out insects.
The helmet comes in three sizes: Small (51-55cm), Medium (55-59cm) and Large (59-63cm). There are Coolmax self-adhesive pads supplied to enable you to get a snug fit and the helmet features Giro's RocLoc system. This is basically a dial at the rear of the helmet which tightens the internal straps to a good fit. This is great, as you can adjust the size to accommodate a hat in the winter without extensive modifications.
The helmet comes in four smart colours; blue, black, white and titanium.
The Giro Monza meets CE EN1078 certification, so you can be assured that when properly worn, it will give you the best protection possible.
So if you're into doing your cycling on the road, the Monza has been designed with you in mind. However, for fast commuting or touring, it's equally good. Smart, comfortable and secure, this helmet suits everyone.
